Known as "the honeymoon capital of the world", historically Sandals Antigua has catered well to a relative large number of honeymooners while presenting a romantic atmosphere along with a theme of relaxation. Due to its popularity, Sandals has recently doubled the size of the resort by adding the new all-suite Mediterranean Village. The new sections includes an ocean view high-rise along with new restaurants and a pool. Along with a casino being constructed next door, Antigua's development is in full force with many ongoing construction projects and upgrades throughout the tourist areas.
Traditional Caribbean side or the new all-suite Mediterranean Village? Overall, most guests will tell you that they favor the Mediterranean side due to the new modern luxurious accommodations. However, there is a well represented minority who choose the lush and tropical Caribbean side. While the Mediterranean village is in the tradition of a modern beach resort with open grounds and stylish suites, it can be argued the Caribbean side is more romantic in nature with its lush gardens, sprawling walkways, and romantic hideaways. Nobody disputes the Caribbean accommodations are smaller and more dated, but some feel this fact only adds to the romantic ambience of the Caribbean side. The good news is no matter where your room is located; both resort sections are open to all guests.
The premium suite is the Luxury Ocean Villa One Bedroom Suites located within the Mediterranean Village. These newly constructed 1,400 sq ft. stand alone villas are the closest units to the beach within the Mediterranean Village and feature a separate bedroom along with an expansive private patio that includes a pool and Jacuzzi. Sitting atop the Mediterranean Village on the 6th and 7th floors is the Mediterranean Honeymoon Penthouse One Bedroom Oceanview Suite at 770 sq ft. Both of the above 1BR units include butler and room service. The Mediterranean Village includes an additional 4 categories of single room suites, all with concierge service, ocean view, and all located with the 7 story highrises - higher priced suites located on higher floors with better views. The premium category on the Caribbean side are the Rondoval suites which are nicely designed cylindrical stand alone units that include private patios and come with Butler service. The first row of Rondovals have good views of the beach. The remaining Rondovals have garden views but are higher priced as they also include private pools. The other Caribbean side butler service option is the Honeymoon Ocean Suites which all either have a balcony or patio. The Caribbean section has 3 Concierge category options with the Grande Luxe Beachfront Concirege Room having very good beach and ocean proximity and views. The concierge Honeymoon Luxury Concierge room is worth mentioning as it is located in a very quiet area in the rear of the resort with a very relaxing pool area. 3 standard service rooms are located on the Caribbean side including the Grande Luxe featuring good proximities to the ocean, the premium room which includes pool views, and the deluxe with standard garden views. Note that both the Premium and Deluxe categories include the Honeymoon version which is the same room in all aspects, but simply marketed towards honeymooners.
The beach is among the best Antigua beaches with full array of water sports including windsurfing, scuba, snorkeling, sailing, and more. 5 pools, whirlpoos, and swim-up bars are spread out around the resort. Land sports include day/night tennis, fitness center, billiards, volleyball, ping pong, and various board games. A full service Red Lane Spa offers optional services which can be reserved and purchased in advance.
Bayside serves as the main restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining available overlooking the ocean. Mario's is a popular Italian restaurant featuring an antipasto bar and open pasta kitchen. Eleanor's is a featured elegant Sandals white-glove service brand. Barefoot is a casual spot where you can kickback and enjoy seafood cuisine practically right on the water's edge. The Cricketer's Arms serves traditional British Pub cuisine during the evening. Kimonos is the popular table side Oriental cuisine found in several Sandals resorts. Next to Kimono's is a sushi bar. OK Corral serves grilled Southwestern specialties overlooking the ocean. Courtyard Bistro serves lunch during the afternoon hours as well as late night snacks. Bella Napoli Pizzeria serves stone baked pizza outdoors during the lunch and afternoon hours.
Guests travel to Sandals Antigua for the romantic tropical atmosphere, variety of accommodations to fit budgets, and the large assortment of gourmet restaurants.
