The original Sandals resort, Sandals Montego Bay, is known as the most active of the Sandals resorts, marketed by Sandals as the resort “where the fun never stops”.  During the day, a fun beach resort all led by a friendly outgoing staff. At night, an entertaining social gathering centered on the beachfront main building which is an open air roofed structure that includes several restaurants, bars, and the amphitheater/dance complex. Notable restaurants are the elegant Oleander Room to the more casual Tokyo Joes and Cucina Romana restaurants. Most restaurants overlook the ocean with some offering optional outdoor dining. The resort’s nightly high energy atmosphere draws in guests from the Sandals Royal Caribbean resort and Sandals Inn utilizing the Sandals exchange privileges and complimentary scheduled shuttle transfers. Sandals Montego Bay has a very loyal following and has the highest return guest rate among the Sandals Resorts.

The resort was purchased by Sandals and opened 1981. The resort buildings and overall layout is fairly cramped together but sprawls out along a decent size beach. Being an older resort with limited land and an overall dated infrastructure, Sandals did what they could to incorporate a modern feel. Limitations are evidenced in several ways including a tiny main pool, certainly no where close to standards found in other Sandals resorts. A second pool with a swim-up bar was added, but although more modern in appearance, land restrictions once again limited the addition to small in size. Bottom line, at this resort you will be spending your days at the beach.

Another notable ‘warning’ is the resort location borders the Montego Bay Airport. The resort is actually a thin strip that runs parallel to the beach on one side and the airport runway on the other side. In some buildings, you can actually open your room door and witness a jumbo jet just lifting off the runway directly in front of you (This would be upper 2 floors of building 8, the Almonds Building, for all you plane buffs out there). This can be rather loud to say the least. Fortunately, plane activity is limited to the early morning and late afternoon periods for the most part. The Sandals staff tries to make the best of the situation by asking guests to wave at the planes when they pass. All in all, most guests do not mind the planes and the beach section is somewhat buffered from the runway by the resort building structures.

250 rooms & suites, 17 categories (including Bay Roc Villas), all rooms include air conditioning, king-size bed, amenity kit, hair dryer, telephone, safety deposit box, private bath & shower, clock radio, cable TV, coffee & tea maker, iron & ironing board. Accommodation buildings are 2 or 3 floors and all rooms are open air entrance. The rooms have been renovated to Sandals standards and are in overall good shape. The premium accommodations are the Bay roc Villas which feature luxurious suites and excellent large tiled patios overlooking the beach on the more private and quiet end of the resort. Unique to Sandals Montego Bay are the Water Dining Lunch amenity which are served exclusively to Butler Service guests. Montego Bay is also the only Sandals with a wedding chapel.
