Sandals Grande Ocho Rios is a very large and spread out resort. It is actually two resorts as Sandals purchased the hillside resort across the road which is now known as the Manor side. The Riviera side is the portion on the beach. A shuttle is available to connect Manor side guests to the beachside.

Located over 2 hour drive from the airport, the resort is most know for being the least expensive complete resort within the Sandals brand. Only at Sandals Inn will you find a less expensive room.

Grande Ocho Rios, along with the other Ocho Rios resort Sandals Dunn’s River, is also the Jamaica destination for golfers as it has a championship 18-hole golf. Nearby Dunn’s River falls makes for a fun-filled excursion (bring water shoes otherwise you will need to rent for $5). Beach lovers are generally disappointed with the small resort beach which is mostly surrounded with a pier, see pictures. Up the road, the Dunn’s River resort offers a far superior beach and many guests utilize the exchange privileges and complimentary shuttle for beach usage. There is a good assortment of restaurants at the resort and the Sandals Dunn’s River restaurants provide further variety. Nightly entertainment and performances can at times give the sprawling hillside resort a certain mystical ambiance. 

The standout rooms are the hillside villas which feature semi-private pools. Please note guests accidentally book these villas thinking they are getting private pools only to be disappointed later when they learn it will be shared with 3 other couples (the sandals.com website does not do a good job making this clear). However, most notably, these villas are highly requested by groups of couples traveling together. Only the top of the line Plantation Great House Villa 1BR suite actually has a private pool. Both the Riviera and Manor side feature several ocean view room categories with the Great House Ocean View being the least expensive. The Riviera building is the closet accommodations to the beach and is located next to the Riviera side restaurants. Scattered behind the Riviera within the gardens are the Riviera cottages along with the 4-story Bamboo Grove building. Across the road is the Manor side which includes the main Manor House building along with the spa and several restaurants. Behind scattered along the hillside are the Plantation Villas and pools.
